What does Glossopdale Foodbank CIO do?

What does Glossopdale Foodbank do?

Glossopdale Foodbank is a local independent registered charity and CIO that provides emergency food for individuals and families in financial crisis. During 2022 we provided 52,578 meals to over 3,745 adults and 2,097 children.

Our ‘Foodbank Plus’ service helps people improve incomes and get out of debt - so they do not need the Foodbank. We refer individuals and families to other relevant services that offer support but only with consent from the individuals concerned.

We also work closely with the other surplus food projects in Glossopdale to ensure that people who come to the foodbank also have access to perishable food such as additional fruit and vegetables, perishable, bakery and dairy items.

Glossopdale Foodbank has a designated Foodbank Adviser called Ghazala Darr. She is based at Citizens Advice in Glossop. Ghazala can be contacted on 07730 089657 or email at ghazala.darr@ddcab.org.uk She may be able to help you increase your income, reduce debts and help with many other problems such as help with gas and electric costs.
Help with Fuel cost may also be available by ringing the Citizens Advice Adviceline on 0808 278 7954 (free number)

Households facing financial difficulties can apply to the Derbyshire Discretionary Fund for possible help. The number is 01629 533399

Glossopdale Foodbank also signposts people who come to the Foodbank to The Bureau in Glossop. The Bureau’s aim is to help members of the community to be able to self-manage any number of social, personal and physical wellbeing issues by connecting them to the right services, offering a listening ear and supporting them to set realistic and achievable goals to improve their health and wellbeing.

Any member of the local community can request support from our Community Navigation team. This can be done by making a self referral https://the-bureau.org.uk/get-support/community-navigation or by going to their website www.the-bureau.org.uk by telephone 01457 865722, by email info@the-bureau.org.uk or by asking a professional to refer you to us such as your GP Surgery, Adult Care, Multi-Disciplinary Teams (District Nurse, OT, Physio, etc.)

The Glossopdale Community generously donates food through donation points at most of the local supermarkets. Over 60 Foodbank volunteers keep the service going working week-in, week-out, all year round. We very much appreciate the support and donations we receive from our benefactors.
